Nicolas James

I currently work at Space Applications Services in Brussels, Belgium.
Previously I was a Research Engineer and PhD student in Computer Science in the LOGIMAS team at the Applied Mathematics and Systems Laboratory (MAS), École Centrale Paris (ECP), Châtenay-Malabry, France.
My main research interest is centered around computer vision, machine learning, text-mining and ontologies for a high-level understanding of multimedia documents.
More specifically, I worked on (1) the integration of A Priori Knowledge in Content-Based Image Annotation (CBIA) systems for the Semantic Annotation of images, (2) the Sense-Tagging of Machine Learning datasets for improving Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR), and (3) the modeling of image annotations using ontologies in an indexing framework.
demo: online demonstrator of the automatic annotation method MMG/RWR with LabelMe data used in this paper. (with a bit noisy vocabulary and a small learning dataset - 18k images / ~4k keywords - due to limited computing resources, a better model will be uploaded soon... ).
