Nicolas James

Welcome to my homepage. I'm a PhD student in computer science in the LOGIMAS team (formerly Mass of Data / Multimedia team, MasDoM) at the Applied Mathematics and Systems Laboratory (MAS), École Centrale Paris, Châtenay-Malabry, France. I'm advised by Céline Hudelot.

My main research interest is centered around computer vision, machine learning, text-mining and ontologies for a high-level understanding of multimedia documents. Specifically, I am working on the integration of a priori knowledge in content-based image annotation systems for the semantic annotation of images, the sense-tagging of machine learning datasets for improving content-based image retrieval, the modelisation of image annotation using ontologies in a indexing framework.

Software

• Galatee: Galatee is a Java library for exploring large image collection where images are annotated. (using it to visualize the PascalVOC data howto).
• LabelMeWorkbench: a toolbox for (1) create indices of the annotations of the LabelMe dataset, (2) browse the dataset, and (3) perform queries on the indices.
